FLIES
Drain/Moth Flies
Drain Flies and Moth Flies are of great economic and medical importance to humans, especially concerning diseases. They are in the order Diptera. This means two wings.

Size: 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch long

Color: Yellowish, brownish-gray, or blackish
Activity/Behavior: The baby flies eat algae, fungi, bacteria, and sludge (basically, your garbage/trash). Flies can become an annoyance or pest when they build up in drains, dirty garbage containers, and septic plants/sewage areas.

Where They Live: Adult flies are more active at night. They are seen flying around near the garbage or the breeding site. During the day, they sit inside on vertical surfaces (doors, windows, cabinets) and in protected areas outside (inside containers or shade).

Tips for Control: Simple elimination of the decaying organic matter (throwing out the trash/rotting food) where they flies are breeding will eliminate the fly problem.

How Sean Rock Exterminating Can Help: Control of drain, house, and moth flies takes persistence and experience. Flies are resilient creatures which feed on human food, so it’s difficult to keep them away. An infestation sometimes can be controlled using over-the-counter products. A trained pest control professional can help you get rid of your fly problem.

Fruit Flies
Fruit Flies can be seen laying eggs around old food. They are recognizable by their red eyes and tan and black bodies. Their wings have easily visible veins on them, resembling breaks.

Size: 1/8 of an inch long

Color: Dull yellow-brown to dark brown
Activity/Behavior: Fruit flies lay their eggs on old fruits or vegetables. Then, they tend to hover around that area or gravitate towards the light.
Where They Live: Fruit flies are found hovering and laying eggs around over-ripe fruits, fermenting liquid, and rotting vegetables. New adults are also attracted to light.
Tips for Control: Throwing away any old fruit or other foods should eliminate the bugs. Also, keep the bottom of trash and recycling bins clean because liquid tends to build up there.

Fungus Gnats
The extremely small Fungus Gnat has colored wings and a dark body. Fungus Gnats are found near liquid garbage. They are part of the super family Mycetophiloidea.

Size: 1/32 to 7/16 of an inch long
Color: Black, brown, or yellowish
Activity/Behavior: The gnat eggs are laid directly on the food. They’re usually found growing in the soil and eating fungi.
Where They Live: They can be found near rotting wood, animal waste, in dark places, over-watered plants and their saucers, and atrium's because they are hosts for moist decaying material.
Tips for Control: Throwing out or cleaning the area where the fungus gnats are found will significantly help because it will remove their food supply. Check the soil of potted plants, wet crawl spaces, or dirty basements. Cut back on watering and fertilizing outdoors.
How Sean Rock Exterminating Can Help: Insecticides are rarely warranted for the control of fungus gnats. A professional can suggest and execute the right course of action, rather than buying over-the-counter products that are unnecessary and unhealthy.

House Flies
House Flies are annoying! When you find yourself buying multiple fly swatters, you have a problem!
Size: 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch long
Color: Dull gray with four dark stripes on the back of the thorax (segments right behind the head with legs and wings attached).
Activity/Behavior: A female may lay more than 500 eggs in a lifetime. Fly eggs can develop into adults in just over 7 days.
Where They Live: The adult flies may migrate to un-infested areas up to 20 miles away, but most stay within one or two miles of the breeding site.

Tips for Control: Cleaning up a trash problem usually gets rid of flies.
